Glory Flan Recipe

8:47 PM

Salam,

Hello everyone. How do you do? So today I would like to somehow document the recipe that I've got from my friend's mom on how to make a flan. Flan is believed to be originated from the ancient Romans. However, nowadays it has already become a famous dessert in Britain, Spain and also France even though the recipe may have diverged one another.

In Malaysia, however, we don't call it Flan, we call it creme caramel. We seems to get influenced by French people when it comes to dessert from western countries. haha (says who never been to France)

Warning: It may differ from other recipe you can get on the web, but just choose the one you feel most comfortable one.

1. Lets make the pudding part first. So just mix 5 eggs (without separating the yolk) with half cup of sugar (the smaller the size, the better), one tin of condensed milk and 2-3 drops of vanilla extract  together with half cup of water. To finish up the mixture, just threw in a pinch of salt.

2. Next, to prepare the caramel part, make sure your pan for the oven uses is ready, since the caramel easily get sticky in room temperature, just like the sticky sugar you like to buy in mall. Heat up half cup of sugar with small flame, its one of the precautions to not burn the sugar. it may take awhile for the sugar to turn brownish, but its okay, be patient, as long as the sugar don't get burn. Then quickly pour the caramel into the pan that is ready to be inserted into the oven. You might not get the caramel to cover the base, but worries no more! Later on the caramel will melt and get more saucy than now.

3. Then mixture of the pudding is ready to pour into the pan. Careful cause the sugar is quite hot, since the boiling point is 171 if no water is being added. Make sure to always wear oven glove during this period. Relief not yet! since there is another step to do.

4. There are few options on how to cook this pudding. First option will be cooking it with steam, where you can just use a steam pot on the stove. You can cook it for about half an hour. Well for me, since the pan is too big, i decided to utilized the oven that we have at home. Its my first time to use water bath technique, but never be afraid to try new things! Using deep oven tray, i filled in half of it with boiled water. Then, i put kitchen towel in it, since i'm afraid that my pudding pan will be floating and moving. And tada! leave it for 40 minutes and there you go :)

Walah!

Lesson Learned: Since it's my first time to try, so I did burn the caramel at first, but give up! Never! Try it harder, as much as you want to eat it. The satisfaction is glory! Glory Glory~ haha.

Ignore my Yoda-style english.
