Melbourne Food Galore!!!

12:52 AM

Hi again,

So now i will be sharing delicious foods which i found in Melbourne while i was there. Here comes the tricky part where people are debating on it halal issues (which become a hot issue nowadays). But insya ALLAH the stores that i went, is obviously something we can eat.

The first ranking restaurant, that my friends and i went for so many times, is Block M. It is an indonesian restaurant which served of course indonesian food which more or less quite similar to our Malaysian Food. The food itself is super delicious. You know right how Indonesian are very good when it comes to spicy food, so if you are a fan of spicy dish, like sambal lele (ikan keli or catfish) < my favourite, stop by Block M! It is located at Little Bourke Street. You can refer to any maps, to go there. Not that tricky.

After eating something heavy, your tongue must be craving for something sweet, or a good coffee (like me). So if you go down the same street, you can find a coffee shop named Brother Baba Budan. But make sure to come before 5pm, since they will be closing after 5pm. The mocha is nice, and even the hot chocolate (say someone who is coffeeholic).

The excitement of ice mocha <3

Next, after eating heavy meal, you might thinking something sweet to complete the meal (that's totally me). Good thing to have friends there, they introduced me to N2 extreme gelato, just behind the Melbourne CBD, you can find a small street named Sutherland, if you take La Trobe St. So whats the differences between N2 gelato and other gelato? They basically do their magic by using liquid nitrogen to flash freeze the gelato. How sweet freaking science! So, if you guys are not familiar with gelato (since malaysia are not really famous with gelato but we have few shops here in KL), and some may put speculation that gelato is from gelatine which sounds almost the same. So here the tips;

Gelato is Italian word for ice cream, commonly used, in English, for ice cream made in an Italian style. Types of sugar used include sucrosedextrose, and inverted sugar to control apparent sweetness. Typically, gelato contains a stabilizer base. Commercial bases usually contain guar gum. (source: wikipedia)

Then, at night we decided to give a try on western cuisine here. So my friend brought us to Sofia Camberwell. Since its out of the city a bit, we need to catch a train to go there. Easy! Just take the train from the flinders station and go straight to camberwell. Walah! you can find the restaurant across the Burke Road. This one is highly recommended if you like italian food such spaghetti. The portion is big, so you can share with you friends and it is not that expensive. Pssst, try to eat the spaghetti with calamari. The taste will leave you with wonderful memory, for your taste bud of course.

One of the most delicious pasta that i have tasted!

If you are a big fan of lamb, i mean, to eat lamb, you should try to eat kebab lamb at Afghan Kebab Brunswick, where you can find it along the Sydney Road. The taste of the lamb, and how tender the lamb slices remind me of new zealand lamb. Eat it with mint sauce and yogurt, and that is just ultimately flavourful. A must try! Brunswick are also famous with many Muslim Restaurants. So if you are adventurous enough, you definitely have to explore other restaurants too!

Since, we had some BBQ sessions with the RMITIS, we finally know where exactly the muslim here bought their halal meats. So fret not! If you insist to cook here, you can find Madina Halal Meats in front of the Harley Davidson Brunswick store. Easy peasy right? Psst, even the beef is cheaper here compared to Malaysia. Oh! and make sure to bring your shopping bag with you.

You can now find more halal food options on Zabihah. Do suggest any restaurants in Melbourne that you find it's halal and super recommended below ;))
