my first labour experience

1:30 AM

Bismillah.

On 13th July, we attended the regular checkup just to see the baby's condition (going into 37 weeks) at the hospital. However, the doctor suggests monitoring CTG as she suggests there is poor intrauterine growth and delivering the baby early than due might be feasible. The baby is around 36th week but the size seen is like in 32th week gestational. Hence, two specialists suggest to best grow the baby outside the womb.

Despite, already being prepared physically (done packing my hospital bag), I was not mentally prepared, so I requested to be admitted on the morning of 15th, so I had few days to give myself some relaxing moment. Then, after performing subuh prayer and asking my mom's forgiveness, I went to Hospital An-Nur with mixed feelings. Of course, I was feeling nervous since I was gonna be parents soon!

Before my first inducement, the doctor checked and apparently, my dilation had already been 2cm at 10 AM. That was very unexpected since I am at 37 weeks. Alhamdulillah anyway. So the doctor just inserted a bullet pill for my first inducement. I certainly there will be only three chances to induce, or else, I might need to for C-Section. I prayed a lot that I only needed one! Hehe. So nothing, nada! Didn't feel any contractions for a while. So I managed to finish surah Maryam multiple times, watching Netflix and taking a nap (very short one). My husband managed to sleep really well on the couch while waiting, and there was I laying on the bed, feeling surreal and nervous on how the contraction would be.

At 4.30 PM the doctor came and checked, alhamdulillah she decided that I didn't to go for second induce since there is improvement (dilation 3cm). Fast forward, to 6 PM I began to feel the contraction. It was really a pain that came and went 😂 At this stage I can't even time it, all I did was try to withstand the pain. Despite that in between the pain, I manage to chew my dinner. I definitely know I need to eat in order to be able to push out the baby later. So my husband spoon-fed every single time, alhamdulillah. Then, when the contraction was at rest. I quickly take a shower and perform my maghrib prayer. When the nurse came to check the dilation, it was not progressing very well. So I was given the choice to wait for the contraction to come naturally or the doctor rupture my amniotic sac to speed up the contraction.

After Isya' prayer, I told the nurse, "Alright I am ready to enter Labour Room now." Which also means I am ready for the second option. Alhamdulillah for that procedure, it was not painful but when the contraction started coming, it really was intense. I was also given few pain relief options, and I chose to take entonox which made me drowsy during the labour and sort of reduce the pain. I only awake when it was too painful. Hahaha... Fast forward of sleep and awake cycle. I finally feel like I'm gonna poop or something like period cramp (but the level pain is 10000000). I also noticed that I couldn't control it longer, as if it gonna come out. Whether is the baby or poop. I dunno at that moment. But I just said to the nurse, "I think the doctor needs to come NOW!" 3.07AM- And yess it was really the moment when I feel like I need to push and with help Dr. Wan Masliza, after 4 pushes a little baby girl was born. I still remember the joy and totally forget the pain that I had to go through.

Oh My Little Girl Adni was born at 3.13 AM. 2.2kg baby girl.

I can't thank enough to Dr. Wan for believing in me and handling me with love and care. It was definitely a happy experience having so many helpful nurses and doctor around.

After cleaning the baby and checking it, my husband made the adzan and iqamah to the little ears. It was too meaningful for me that I had to record it despite just give birth. Hahaha. Then continue sleep. The side effect of entonox was still there.

After resting for an hour, they handed the baby for me to nurse. It was definitely awkward, but I managed it. On the note, I felt like it wasn't easy to produce milk at first. But thanks to my husband and tips from my sis-in-law. Drinking hot water soaked with jujube and fenugreek really helped me in milk production. after 24hour of giving birth, finally my milk came out and I'm so happy for Adni.

Now the journey as a parent begin!

All the best for my husband and me.

Thank you for reading.
