Penang feat Kedah :3

10:48 AM

So here i am,

writing another post in the middle of the night, in the middle of another semester break.

Well, I'm here having foodgasm, thus trying to learn and understand more about coffee and baking desserts that i adore. So till then, expect some recipe sharing in return.

In the other hand, i would love to share some of my not-so-adventurous experience, getaway with bestfriends. Though it was just a short getaway and most of it were unplanned, i enjoyed it to the max. So it just me and my good friend traveling all the way from our beloved campus, to Pendang, Kedah for some important reasons. However, before we departed, we went to Gazebo Abg Nash at Batu Gajah to have our breakfast. The stall is just beside the road, but for me, it draws my attention because, though the stall is just "tepi jalan" stall, they have flowers on each and every table! Well, who doesn't love flowers! They just amazingly beautiful and brighten up the day. So we had what? Nasi lemak and of course the special dish, which i find it delicious is their capati with kari kambing. I tell you, this one, is uphmm! Cheap, affordable and delicious, what else can a student ask for? Try it out, before leaving utp yaww.

Then, on the way to Pendang, Kedah (well now i just learn the map of Kedah oh Kedah). Pendang is like all the way up, after Kulim, Sg Dua, Sg Petani and Gurun, but right before Alor Setar. So, expect it to be a long long long journey (around 5 hours maybe from Ipoh). So yeah, along the way, we were tested with financial problem, where money were spent more on fuel and toll. Toll! haha. And we were like, where to get money to buy food lah? So we manage to collect some from bags, here and there, and tada! Enough money to buy bread and drinks! That time, we were like, "how does it feel to be among them, who are less fortunate, and money constraint." Alhamdulillah, we are grateful for the blessings of food that we eat and the comfort that we have. Praise to Allah.

Next, when we arrived to Pendang, the view was spectacular! My oh my~ I love to see the green paddy field. Such a beautiful, breathtaking view. So we open up the window, suck in all the fresh air while we still can. Beautiful, amazing view, Masya Allah. Praise to Him. So, yup after trying the nasi talam daging, we are superbly recharged for the real adventure <food hunting>. Head down to Penang!

Since we arrived at Penang at late night, without reserving any hotel rooms, with just depending some information about new budget hotel along the Gurney Road, we took up the challenge, and round round we go. Alhamdulillah, with Will of the Almighty, we managed to find the cheap hotel (RM 105 per nite) with sea view. It is the Gurney View Inn. Tada! The service was ok and the interior design was awesome! It might not look like on the internet, but yeah, we don't really mind. But in case, if you are quite picky about space (means you prefer spacious place don't mind looking at this hotel), cause it is only suitable for those who can live in small dimension like me. So yup, as the service people said, we'll get 10% discount for the next reservation, for family and people related to us. Nice!

Next morning, we are totally excited for food hunting session. We went for breakfast along the Gurney road, there are few halal restaurants. Then, we chilling out along the seaside. Then, we went for Kapitan with our friends! Yeay! Well, to be honest I don't really fancy briyani rice or tandoori chicken, but this one is a must try!! > double important signal ;)  So yup, for the one who suggest the place to me, thanks, and congratulations! I found it damn delicious! So just google it, it is located at Keling Mosque road. Must try tau! The spices i tell you, nice so nice, that you just want to double up the portion. Then, we took a walk along the Indian Town, looking for food. But since, it was blazing hot, we don't dare to have the walk for so long. Next thing i learned that, Penang have many, not few, but many malls, like Komtar (old), Prangin Mall, Gurney Plaza, Gurney Paragon and Queensbay Mall. When i first arrived Penang, it gives me the feeling of arriving Singapore. Not totally alike, but there is some. A nice place to travel by walking. I think if, i stay for few days more, i can remember the road well, because it is not that big, i totally know how to read signboard.

We went to Straits Quay, a very nice place to have photoshoot (hikhok) perhaps wedding or fashion? To be precise, it gives you the feeling of San Francisco. Walah! Then, we went to Queensbay Mall, to try out the famous Nurul Ikan Bakar (where in Bangi, the Ana Ikan Bakar is quite famous also), so yup, im not sure whether the food is expensive, because on that day, it's people's treat! Means free food! hehe. Thank you, Tuan Rumah. So yup, me and my usual menu, tomyam, telur goreng, sotong goreng tepung, ikan bakar masak halia (la kot), maen makan je ikan. And its all about eat and eat and eat. It was heartbreaking for a moment, because supposedly, we should go back to KL on that particular night, but since we are quite exhausted, we delayed it.

The next morning, after we regain our strength and motivation, we went for the last stop near Sg Dua, tralala the famous Cendol Pak Belalang at Maklom road. Very much near from the Sg Dua exit. We ate two bowl of cendol, abc and laksa Kedah! Yeay! Mission Accomplished!! After trying the original kedahan laksa, im fully satisfied with this trip. No regret! Try it!

To make it short (since im feeling wakie and sleepie) these are the foods that i'll be trying for my next trip to Kedah or Penang : Nasi Kandar Kayu, Nasi Royale Jitra, Ais Krim Gulung, Mee Udang Sg Dua and (comment below to add some more). Let it be a pleasent food hunting memory! Till then, Meow!
